Goosebumps Blog Rant (well sort of)

Hey Guys,

Remember Goosebumps!  This series of books was created by world renowned author R.L. Stine, and he also created the Fear Street series.  This man is the GOD of children horror books.  I won't say that all the books in the series were perfect, but they did have a strong effect on helping kids read more.  That was the main goal of R.L. Stine.  To get kids to continously read.  Well, Mr. Stine, that's exactly what you did to kids in the 1990s.  I remember seeing these books everywhere in the library and bookstore.  The covers of the book were created by Tim Jacobus. The one that scared me the most was the Haunted Mask.  That thing scared me the most.  I hated any time that saw that thing.  Basically if you were a kid around that time, you know (or had some sort of idea) of what Goosebumps was.

The first Goosebumps book was published in 1992, and it was called "Welcome to Dead House."  The book itself was interesting.  It was about a family would moves into a town called Dark Falls.  Seriously, would you move into a town called Dark Falls?!  Anyways, it turns out the people of town are zombies and they need human blood to survive (turning the family into zombies as well).  Apparently, they are vampire zombies, because sunlight can kill them.  I'd go Blade on their asses!!

The family gets away, and kill all the zombies.  Or do they?  One of the main things that made the Goosebumps books interesting is the fact that R.L. Stine had major twist endings.  The realtor who sold the family the house is a zombie as well, and while the family is leaving, he is selling the house to another family.  The family then high-tail it out of Dark Falls.

What douche bags!! Why couldn't they warn the new family? JERKS!!

The endings of these books had a twist ending at the end.  The books themselves were like a roller coaster for kids.  At the end of the ride they were safe (maybe minor psychological damage, but they were okay).  The original book series had 62 books (1992-1997).  R.L. Stine eventually made the Goosebumps Horrorland series, which is still ongoing now, due to the demand for more books.  The guy was writing a book almost every month during the 90s.  I think the man deserves a couple of years to recuperate. The book series has been translated in 35 languages including English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, German, Polish, Thai, and many more.  Because of the decline in sales in Goosebumps, Scholastic's (the distributing company) revenue dropped 40%.  That's amazing that the fate of one book series could have impacted an entire corporation.

And we all know the TV series too.  R.L. Stine made sure that his favorite stories were made into episodes first, which included the "Haunted Mask" and "Stay Out of the Basement."  The TV show was mediocre, but it still has its nostalgic value.  That is why I am making a TOP 5 BEST Goosebumps episodes review.  You want to know what they are, well you'll have to wait for the review (so I can figure them out myself).  Just kidding!  Thanks guys.

Enjoy this awesome theme song that introduced every episode!!
